Wall of Virtues
Our purpose of creating this Wall of Virtues is to motivate students and to involve them in thinking about themselves, others and the world. The dictionary defines virtue as ‘a particular moral excellence’ and tells us it comes from the Latin word meaning ‘strength or worth.’
It is grounded in the foundation of our first school goal…
To have a safe and caring environment with positive relationships in order to build bright futures together.
By creating this wall we also parallel our ‘pay it forward’ and ‘anti-bulling’ programs that we feel is important in the education of our students.
The three core values are the pillars of who we are at Blackie. We see and hear this is the actions of our students in Blackie School as well as when they leave and attend other schools.
- Respect (for yourself, others and property)
- Responsibility (yourself, others and community)
- Resourcefulness (human and other resources)
Each month we will be working on 2-3 virtues that we as a staff have chosen to be a steward citizen of society. Starting in February, we will be concentrating on kindness, caring and citizenship as our 3 virtues. Each week the students will be focused on habits of that virtue. One morning of the week, each class will set aside time to discuss, tell stories, or write about the virtue. The virtue and a photograph of a child demonstrating that virtue will be placed on our Blackie School Wall of Virtues.
We urge you as parents to ask your children about the virtues they are learning at school and how to practice them at home as well.
It’s all about character...
Watch your thoughts;
They become words.
Watch your words;
They become actions.
Watch your actions;
They become habits.
Watch your habits;
They become character.
Watch your character;
It becomes your destiny.
